WASH and WinS System

"WASH and WinS System"

WASH mean Water ,Sanitation and Hygiene  and WinS stands for WASH in School. UNICEF have a lot of work on this system.
  • Background & Purposes:

The purpose of WASH system in schools may promotes hygiene and sanitation system.This may leads to a quality education of students.Also it may effect health care and reduces many diseases.WASH in schools,aim is to improve the health standards and learning performance of school-aged children.Every child may receives friendly system in schools.
Poor sanitation,clean water shortage,low water quality and unhealthy hygiene behaviour are disaster for new born childs and youngster .Diseases spreads quickly in cramped spaces with limited ventilation,where washing facilities or soap availability is not well and proper.Too often,schools are places where children become ill.Many stomach diseases are caused by unhealthy drinking water.WASH in schools may focuses on development of schools system for better hygiene and sanitation.This may be due to mobilization and better involvement of children and parents also.
Schools may work on:

  1. Sustainable,safe water supply,better Hand-Wash facilities.
  2. Better Hygiene and sanitation system.
  3. Availability of washrooms and soaps.
  4. Better drinking water for students.


  •  Advantages:

These better facilities may lead to many benefits;

  1. Healthier students rate.
  2. Better skill approach.
  3. Better cooperation of students.
  4. Better hygiene practice in future.
  5. More attendance rate.


  • WASH practice in schools:


  1. Schools may arrange workshops based on WASH facilities.
  2. Hygiene education should be provided to parents also.
  3. Engaging families and communities ensures that children apply their knowledge at homes and schools.
  4. At national level government may arrange seminars for schools.
  5. School canteen should be provided with clean water.
  6. Soap availability must be given.
  7. School management may arrange daily basis work like:

* MONDAY:          safe handling of drinking water
* TUESDAY:         safe disposal of wastewater
* WEDNESDAY:  safe disposal of dustbins
* THURSDAY:     safe disposal of extra wrappers
* FRIDAY:            Household sanitation and food hygiene
* SATURDAY:      personal hygiene
* SUNDAY:           community sanitation through the Global education projects
Schools management must arrange Sunday as a clean-up day.All system in schools may work its best in all weather conditions.Better monitoring system should be there.

  • Challenges & Hurdles:

A successful WASH system may set in balance between good quality and cost.These facilities may be affordable,durable and easy to maintain.Drinking water quality for canteen purposes or drinking is not meeting the needs.Washrooms may need privacy and security.Washrooms are not having proper sanitation and hygiene system.Cleaning and disposal systems are not quick and safe.Less children participation in hygiene education is major hurdle.School system lacks budget and funds to better up their system.Lack of coherent strategic framework is another key to this.
Less political and government interest also add a bitter taste to it.No monitoring system for schools hygiene facilities increases illness.It may also due to less or no training of teachers and parents.

  1. Construction of training centers for teachers and parents.
  2. Allocation of Recycle bin for Schools.
  3. Developing methodologies for WASH system.
  4. Providing funds for the betterment of school hygiene system.
  5. Better monitoring policies.
  6. Children to be more willing to do practice of hygiene.
  7. More participation of parents,teachers and students in WASH workshops.
  8. Linking home education with school education.
  9. Celebrating "Global Hand-Wash Day" at national and global level,to promote education of hygiene system.

"NISHAN-E-HAIDER"

  • Some Facts:

~ NISHAN-E-HAIDER was established on 16th March 1957.It was given from 1947.
~ It is the highest Military award of Pakistan.
~ Literally it means "Mark Of The Lion".
~ It was named after Hazart Ali (R.Z),4th caliph of Islam.
~ All awards are awarded against Indian wars.
~ It is abbreviated as NH.
~ Ist awarded to captain Muhammad Sarwar.
~ Last awarded to Lalak Jan.
~ It can be awarded to all ranks of all Armed Forces.
~ It is manufactured by Pakistan Mint,including 88% copper,10% tin and 2% zinc.
~ 7 officers and 3 soldiers are holder of it.
~ 1 award in 1948,1 in 1958,2 in 1965,5 in 1971 and 2 were given in 1999.

~ He got commissioned in 1944.
~ Sarwar Shaheed  college was named after his honor.


2. Karnal Sher Kahn Shaheed:

~  He was born on 1970.
~ He ranked as a Captain in army.
~ He served for 5 years from 1994-1999.

~ He ranked as a Major in Army.
~ He served for 15 years from 1943-1958.
~ He served for 16th Punjab Regiment.
~ He took active part in Indo-Pak 1947 war.
~ He died on 7th August 1958.
* HONOR:
~ 3 Bullets heavily injured him which causes his death.His last words were:
"I have completed my duty; the enemy is on the run now."
~ His native village is now after his name Tufail- Abad.
